1893 INVITATION CARD/TICKETTHAT ACCOMPANIED INVITATION TO WCE DEDICATION
Scarce and very inexpensive, this was part of the package sent our to invite individuals to the dedication of the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. I do know that many collectors only have the large invitation to asttend the dedication. That piece is certinly scarce, but if you're patient, attainable. Most sales of the invitation do not include other piec es of the package, including envelopes and this card telling the recipient who had requested that the invitation be sent to them.
Invitations to the dedication only went to those with a special connection to the sender, fair management, political figures and so on. It was also open to the tens of thousands who watched from a variety of vantage points, including many nowhere near close to the ceremony.
In a personal diary of a young woman we sold as part of our Heritage 2008 sale of my personal ticket collection, she discusses finding a decent location well off the ground to watch the proceedings--and commented that her friend called out to the President who tipped his hat in return.
That diary is one of the most outstanding artifacts we have ever owned and sold from the WCE dating back to our "discovery" of the world's fair more than 45 years ago!
If you have the invitation and not this card, here is a very unusual opportunity to purchase one for LESS THAN TEN DOLLARS!
