WORLD'S COLUMBIAN MEDAL, EXCELLENT, LOOP WAS REMOVED
This "baby faced" Columbus is one portrait of him we've not seen before. I don't believe I am exaggerating when I say I've seen 100 or more different Columbus looks on medals or coins. If you are a serious WCE collector, take a look at all of your coins and medals featuring Columbus and count the different portraits or other poses.
I still believe that the rendition used on the U.S. half dollar somehow seems the best, but I don't know if that means it is accurate....or not.
It would be very interesting to do a little reseaarch and write an article about the exercise. I'll have to look into that and it probably should be expanded to include printed material from the fair, as well. The logical place to begin--the 1892 half dollar and the Columbus admission ticket.
This medal is one I've not seen before and I've priced it ridiculously low.
