1853 NEW YORK CRYSTAL PALACE WORLD'S FAIR

West's Trained dogs that appeared at the 1853 Crysgtal Palace--officially the first world's fair ever held in the United States (although many people credit that 1st to the 1876 Centennial in Philadelphia). There are very few medals available from the NYWF in 1853. This is the closest to inexpensive. You could purchase a gem BU example for $1,000 to $2,000 or an AU example for perhaps $300-$500.

This is a strong example of an XF. There was never very good detail on Mr. West's face; if you can discern the features of his face you are looking at least at an AU example.

We will be having a Crystal Palace special sale of more than 20 medals later this year; these are medals we already own and we may find a couple others to add.

Included in the sale are an official large medal from 1853, Exhibitor medals from the 1851 London Crystal Palace a proof or prooflike amazing white medal with the Crystal Palace on the reverse and Prince Albert and Queen Victoria on the obverse. There are going to be some simply beautiful medals in the sale. The majority of them are from 1851. We thought that perhaps we could promote the forthcoming sale with this 1853 example of a storecard. It's priced at only $69 here.
