RARE PASS FROM THE CIVIL WAR--NOT EXACTLY A WORLD'S FAIR TICKET, BUT A NICE ONE

It's difficult to read the specifics but this is a very scarce pass. Most from the Union army in the Civil War were written on simpler forms or just on a piece of letterhead--or often just a plain sheet of paper. I studied the Civil War quite extensively when I wrote three Civil War books and produced/published the 7-book series, "A Young Reader's History of the Civil War."

In number of awards and sales the series was the most successfuly publishing venture for us, and from 1985 to a bit into the new millennium we produced and published 200 books! The series was written primarily for schools and libraries and was written at an adult level. We sold well over 600,000 total copies. The books were for Penguin/Dutton in both hardcover and softcover and then Scholastic purchased bookclub rights for several of the books. It's crazy, but when Scholastic decides to add a book (at least our history books) to their school catalog they purchase as many as 50,000 copies!
