QUITE RARE 1916 PANAMA CALIFORNIA INTERNATIONAL EXPO SEASON PASS
I've been involved collecting and selling expo material, including passes and tickets for essentially my entire adult life--and can't recall when I first discovered this San Diego expo. Quite a while ago I found a souvenir medal but other than that, I haven't seen anything from this exposition.
And it ran, according to this pass, the entire year January to December, which makes it unusual in that regard. I have been to San Diego many times, as a kid and later an adult, as I have close relatives there. So I do remember seeing a couple of buildings that I believe were from the 1916 event. But I saw those as a young teenager--so that means they have had 60 years to have removed them or had them destroyed by the elements.
I suspect that the planners decided on this fair specifically because of the PPIE in San Francisco in 1915. I am not sure, but I believe the scene on the pass is those buildings and they are the same ones on the San Diego commemortive half dollar.
The pass is a bit rough but is in excellent enough shape that it would display fine. A very rare item! The point of this sale is that it is a SALE, so I am offering virtually everything listed at a substantially reduced price. In this case I would say the pass could easily fetch $100, and I'm listing it at only $48!
