2 UNUSED EXPO TICKETS--1940 NEW YORK RARE SPECIMEN + AN UNUSED 1962 CENTURY 21 FULL TICKET BOOK

You will find a large number of tickets here for both the 1939-1940 NYWF and the 1962 Seattle Century 21 Exposition. The NYWF icket is very rare for two important reasons--tough to find these tickets unused and it is a specimen or sample. I think even 86 years ago sending your child to the fair for a quarter was a pretty reasonable amount. Although my parents were 21 & 26 at the time and have told me how veryt tough the preceding years of the Depression were. I wonder exactly what 25 cent could have purchased in 1940?

The other item here is an unused/full ticket book. These are pretty tough to come by and I've noticed that you would have to pay between $25 and $40 for this ticket book on ebay. I have never seen one for less than $25 and quite honestly, if I saw one on ebay today for $25 I would purchase it. I have 2 but would buy a 3rd to resell. Your best bet is to buy this one. You will, I'm sure, be very surprised at how very inexpensive everything in this ticket sale is.

I am pricing this lot at only $21--and considering the full C21 ticket book would very likely cost you at least $30, I'd say it's a pretty good price. I always try to be very forthcoming with my customers. I see too many dealers who quote prices that they say are retail....but theirs is much lower. That's not the case here. If it's half price or only 10% below retail we will point out the facts. And the 1940 specimen ticket is a tough one to price as there just aren't any around with which to compare. I would ask $15 for it and although NYWF specimen tickets are rare, I have seen on seller on ebay asking ridiculous prices for them--in the $45-$50 and higher range. I don't believe they sell at that, however.

I have included a page from another ticket book that is open so you can see what the tear-out tickets look like. You can see that the ticket book includes two admissions along with quite a lot of other event admissions. These were advance ticket sales and they came with a very nice book-length guide book and a "21" lapel pin. An interesting aside: I recall years ago finding out that the fair did NOT commission these to be made. They found a company with several thousand of these "21" pins, extras for an event. I guess they ordered just a few extras. I don't know what the company was, but their "21" pins had nothing to do with the 21st century or a world's fair.

The fair also sold special lapel pins for a dollar. They're quite nice, a blue enamel fair logo. I don't know how many of those were sold, but since they were for sale all over the city ahead of the fair and during it. I would assume tens of thousands.

You will see many group lots as move through the listings in this sale. In a few cases you might see two lots that have one of the same ticket in both. We have duplicates of many tickets and I think some of the best bargains in the sale are group lots such as the next lot listed that has inexpensive tickets...but at a giveaway price. I hope you will work your way through our store--you will find about 130-140 tickets in around 75 total lots.

Since it's not good business to talk about an item and then not offer it for sale, so the winner of this lot will also receive a "21" pin as a little bonus.

Good hunting.
