Special Sale: Victorian Solid Wood/Metal Stereo Viewer + 10 World's Columbian Stereo Cards

This Columbian-era viewer (it is not marked with a company, the fair or a date) but it certainly was being used circa 1893. We're also including a group of 20 World's Columbian Expo stereo cards. If you'll notice in the photos, if you are familiar with Victorian viewers, this one is superbly made and in impeccable condition.I am afraid I can't tell you what type of wood it is. FYI, the "peg" at the bottom of the viewer is the handle the user holds and it provides a nice leg to support the viewer on the table, as well. The rounded front or eyepiece end demonstrates the overall skill that went into the viewer. The curved wood housing is secured with brass rivets and the wood is in just about perfect condition. The perpendicular piece separates the person's line of sight so each eye sees one of the two identical photos on the stereo card and then the brain translates that into a single image. It's a very interesting concept and proved to be a very good form of enteretainment for years, as is evidenced by the number of cards one can find. It is interesting that finding any viewer, let alone one so well-made, is not an easy task. You can also see the extened wooden bar that runs away from the person using it; it holds the card in metal clips and can be slid closer or farther away as suits the person's eye sight. The card holder has a gap in the bottom where the extended wooden arm can slide. We will wrap this peice heavily in bubble wrap and surround it with a whole lot of packaging, all of this going in a nice solid box for the trip to the buyer's home. The price for this lot includes the viewer as shown, plus a selection of TEN World's Columbian stereo cards. You can also purchase additional lots of TEN separate separate Columbian Stereo Cards for $25, but we've sold about 150 cards thus far and only have fewer thn 50 left. PLEASE EMAIL IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO ORDER ANY. NOTE: Since we had three Columbian return passes in the photo we'll also include those with the purchase at no additional cost.
