1861-1864 Genuine Civil War Official Publications & Copy of Philadelphia Newspaper Full of War News
Please scan all of the photos; since we're limited to five per listing we tried to double up publications in each photo. This lot includes a copy of the Philadelphia paper brimming with Civil War news and battle coverage, plus general local, national and even internation news from nearly 160 years ago. The printed documents and official circulars of one- to-a dozen or more pages include several issues of a Loyalist newletter-type publication including text from historical generals. The other loose circulars are war-dated government issued documents. These may appear mundane but can hold interesting and often amazing information. Included are such things as deserter news (when caught the soldiers faced a firing squad), prisoner of war information, medical reports and so on; all of these are offical US publications printed by and with the authority of the US Congress. Any one of these documents would (should!) retail for $15-$20 each. When we quote retail prices in any of our articles, sales and books we always provide the caveat that because prices vary so much in the collectibles market, it's always wise to be patient and look for items at the lowest prices of the price range. Virtually every vintage collectible or historical item now can be more often than not found on ebay at these prices but much more frequently at two, three, even ten times the approximate value. We always recommend studying actual SOLD prices on ebay, not just the different asking prices. In our forthcoming 2021 book about World's Columbian Expo Rarities we will include what we believe is the first and only comprehensive listing of actual prices realized in discussing values so that the reader/collector can judge more accurately the REAL market value. This entire lot is substantially below any current prices, about half what one might expect to encounter buying each item separately. We would typically offer these EIGHT items at $15 each or $100 for the entire lot. For this sale the group is just $68. NOTE: If you have interest in historical documents and newspapers we have an inventory of close to 100 items generly from the 1850s-to-1930s. If you collect such material please ask us for more information. We hope to have a printed inventory ready after the first of the year.
