World's Columbian 1893-Choice BU Eglit 9 Aluminum Globe Dollar and Landing Scene #1040
This medal exhibits no wear at all on either side. We have seen this medal in this condition routinely slabbed as about an MS62-63 which seems a fair assessment. The details are all sharp as struck and the landing scene members are all surprisingly crisp. As with other examples of such a group image all of the sailors seem to have the same facial features. The poses are a little comical from the bored looking man at the far left, to the man at his left clutching his heart to the man at center left, hand on hip, posing for the 1492 version of GQ perhaps.
