WCE-Last 1 of 5 in Kennel Collection, Sea Shell Boats from the World's Columbian Expo
Souvenirs don't get much more fragile yet somehow this group survived 128 years of obviously careful storage. They were in the Kennel collection for many of those years.
Please look at the photos: THIS ITEM IS ONE SAILBOAT ONLY.
We originallly had FIVE from the Kennel Collection, unheard of for so many in one collection. Somehow, after all these years, that they survived is quite amazing. They are very fragile, obviously, but we have shipped four thus far and they've sailed across the country via the USPS safely. They are all virtually identical but the ones we're offering are the ones WITHOUT the little paper covering over the cork that I suppose was intended to be the cabin....but also could've served as the sailor's seat.
I have seen these on a very few occasions and I have also said repeatedly that rarity is not as important as personal taste. I never purchased one for myself in the decades I was collecting Columbiana. They reminded me too much of those odd seashell animals or people you see in souvenir shops at seaside resorts. They at least are much more creative (in my opinion) than a sand dollar with glued on eyes!
We sold two on Ebay and two in this store as part of our September sale. We are offering the last of the group here and at the same low price of $60. It makes sense that they're difficult to find giving their fragility; no doubt the vast majority were broken 100 years ago or thereabouts.
