1893 World's Columbian New York header, Ribbon & Medal

Outstanding virtual mint medal below a torn red, white and blue ribbon and with a header bar celebrating New York.

There were a great many New Yorkers at the WCE and this medal with the "New York" header bar was aimed at those people. Many souvenirs were made aimed at a specific group of fairgoers. Hanging badges with each state name and many foreign countries were offered for sale, appealing to the pride of residents from every state and many foreign countries.

This same badge--header bar, ribbon and identical medal--was also offered for sale with "souvenir" on the bar and with no identification and just a fancy design on the bar.

I noted that the NY Committee of 100 medal listed for sale here was actually enhanced by the flash, while this medal is nicer than one would think based on its appearance (that lacks luster and shows the landing group as if in shadow).

The medal is not only worthy of your adding it to your WCE collection but has more eye appeal than ashown here. One needs to handle it carefully due to the rip in the ribbon that is just a function of its age, assembled "only" about 132 years ago.

I would suggest handling it minimally because of the ribbon. You could also put a small piece on the back of the ribbon to protect it from tearing further; it could then be displayed in any number of ways knowing you had provided for its longevity.

NOTE: if you purchase the item I will include a bit of museum acid free repair gummed tape, but will leet you decide if you want to do the repair. I do NOT do any repair work nor alteration of the appearance of any historical item I sell. But I am happy to provide you the tape which you can choose to use or not.
