WCE 1893-Large Iron(?) Hanging Wall Plaque of Christopher Columbus #1343
This quite heavy wall hanging from the fair is more than five inches in diameter. While I have seen this piece a few times over the years I would call it very scarce. It was just one of a truly unbelievable list of souvenirs for sale at the Exposition.
This one has a small price sticker on the back noting $350. In handling the well over 5,000 items in the Kennel Collection I noted that whenever an old owner’s/seller’s sticker or tag existed John Kennel kept it with the item. I do not know if John paid more or less or this amount, but it would not surprise me to see this piece selling for $350 even in the late 1990s. This is one of those items that you might just find in a second hand store for next to nothing….or in an upscale auction where it sells for $500-$750 or more.
I am pricing it no at what others are asking or might ask or even if John Kennel might have spent $350 on it. I believe that $125 is a very legitimate, albeit low, price in this market.
Should you win this we can certainly ship several medals or similar items with it at no additional postage, but flat items/publications would need to ship separately.
