Shipwreck Sale: Sikhote Alin (Russia) Meteorite Natural & Somewhat Cube Shaped

This is a natural Skihote Alin meteorite that has not been altered in any way. This is a small "shrapnel" piece which is one that split off from the main mass of a meteor and landed separately, as distinguished from one cut from the main or a large piece of the mass. This piece is about the size of a cube of sugar; to the uninitiated this may seem small but is actually larger than the vast majority of meteorites that reach the general public. Even some museum gift shops will sell nicely packaged pieces as little as 1% this size.

I think in general people who have not studied meteorites imagine that they're all the size of a football--or a car! I have seen one in a museum maybe 4-5 feet tall and it's the rarity. You could be looking at millions of dollars for a unique piece such as that. In general prices of the same meteorite go up as the size increases and not on a consistent basis. Just for example, you might find one small meteorite for $100...then a golf ball size for $500....and a baseball size one as much as several thousand dollars. It depends how rate the specific meteorite is and how obtainable larger pieces are. Virtually all meteorites available privately anywhere are quite limited in size.
