Shipwreck Sale: One of 2 NGC Graded Ancients as Mint State--Salonina 254-268 AD
$95.00

This coin certainly looks uncirculated but that is very tough to determine for most of us. With NGC grading it Mint State that solves the issue of what the owner or a potential buyer might quibble over.
It would be nice to be able to stretch back in time to when specific ancients were found in modern times--5 years ago, 50 years ago, 100 years ago? It was quite likely NOT simply dug after being buried in dirt for almost 2 millennia; wherever it was found it was in a location that preserved it and its eye appeal.
The coin was clearly struck well if just a tad offcenter, which the vast majority of ancients were. Mint state coins from almost 2,000 years ago is a rarity of course.
