Perhaps the Finest Known of any 1851 Crystal Palace Medal GEM MS64 #925
This also is one of the absolute finest European Exposition medals we've ever handled and only a very few coins and/or medals in this sale could rival it.
It’s easy to say, “well THIS ONE is my favorite medal” in the sale and one could almost do that, but this is—if I may say so when I’m the one who purchased every medal on sale here—one of many quite amazing numismatic features here. But it certainly is a splendid medal and this one can carry the “rare” label if you take into account the number known AND the number at this quality level. I seriously doubt you would find an example at MS65. I personally have never felt compelled to purchase the holder, as they say, but rather the coin/medal/token. Had this specific medal have been raw I would have grabbed it the minute I saw it and would consider that it should cost the same raw or slabbed. I do know that there is a comfort level when you have a coin that is clearly uncirculated AND it’s in an MS64 NGC holder. It’s like an insurance policy considering just how many sellers exaggerate their items, or worse, simply overgrade them. I can say unequivocally if this were raw I would call it a GEM BU and quite likely call it better than a 64.
