Incredibly Rare Columbian Presentation Copy/History of the Empire of Japan-Lot #99
This book is the only one we have encountered of this title. It is lavishly printed and I believe this was a special presentation copy. It includes beautiful Japanese style illustrations of the 19th century, both in color and black and white. This is a unique opportunity for the book or Columbian collector (or the individual who is both!). Included with the book is an unusual large printed and Illustrated sheet about the Japanese Tea House on Wooded Isle at the Expo. It is printed on ultra-lightweight paper, much lighter than modern tissue paper. I do not know that John Kennel acquired this with the book but it seems a likely companion piece so we are including it at no additional cost. Also included is a 12-page antiquarian bookseller's elaborate, detailed description of the book. We assume John purchased the book based on this description. We've not listed this book in our Columbian Bookstore as we felt it imperative to show images from the book. We will send it insured mail. While this may not be the most expensive book from the Columbian Expo we've seen, it is definitely my personal favorite. We also have a comparably priced and similarly rare book in our COLUMBIAN BOOKSTORE, about Germany and the German Village on the Midway Plaisance, printed in both English and German. German visitorship to the fair was quite high and several guide books were printed in German alone or multiple languages for fairgoers.
