CRYSTAL PALACE 1862- Large White Medal Featuring a Young Queen Victoria, Crystal Palace #132
This large thick plancet medal was designed by Massonet, who was still busy doing fabulous medals 31 years later in Chicago for the WCE. This piece measures about 50mm and features not only the building but a quite young Victoria--who spent longer on the crown than anyone until the current Queen Elizabeth...and she gave us a name for a golden era: The Victorian Age. It is hard to believe Elizabeth ascended the crown when I was a toddler and now I'm looking at a 69-year-old in the mirror . I'm so pleased to be able to offer so many outstanding medals from THREE Crystal Palaces, London in 1851 and 1862, and New York (not to be overlooked!) in 1853.
