#177-CIVIL WAR SALE: VINTAGE & RARE SEAL OF THE CONFEDERACY

This heavy metal seal of the Confederacy has two mounting holes you can see at the front and rear of the horse, which are original to the piece. It is quite large (as you can see from the comparative size of the quarter in the photo) and was clearly manufactured to be fitted to something such as a plaque or statue base. We have a more recent version of the seal in red aluminum the size of a silver dollar included in this sale as well. Obviously this 19th century piece is very rare. In the 1990's I sold the only other example I have owned that was both this size and also dated from the Civil War; it sold for $750!
