#188-CIVIL WAR SALE: RESULTS OF COURT MARSHALS, AIDING ENEMY
This is a federal government document announcings the conclusion of trials essentially for treason; but the act of treason wasn't as blatant as would result in soldiers' being executed. This report of multiple trials is one of a myriad number of such printed reports I have encountered in researching the Civil War for several books.
Such reports are all part of the United States military and war records, but they were never widely distributed. I have always kept an eye open to find such reports (on mutliple subjects) for resale to many of our customer. Letters and documents like you see in this sale have proven useful in many books I've written, and they have made the stories I told much more compelling than if all I had to use were very "vanilla"documents. This type of war record, whether a trial was for theft or abandoning a post...or aiding the enemy, provided insight into the legal apparatus of the U.S. Government during the Civil War.
A very inexpensive and collectible item! I have included a variety of government documents--many very rare--in this sale; and I have others that I simply didn't have room to accommodate in this sale. So....please ask for more information where it might be of interest or help to you. And please read these document pages I[ave photographed to see just how poignant they can be.
