#166-CIVIL WAR SALE: MS62 NGC SLABBED TOM CULLEN CIVIL WAR TOKEN

The photos I take through coin slabs leave a whole lot to be desired and this is an example of that! As I've noted many times, grading CWT's can be a crap shoot. For those unfamiliar with grading or grades, a great many tokens that are uncirculated just don't look the part.

Part of the problem is that the privately struck tokens very often are weakly struck, planchets are substandard and rims can look as if they have a degree of circlation.

While the photos aren't very complimentary to the CWT, what might look like an XF; at least buyers can feel more comfortable when they buy the token in one of the three main companies providing grading (ANACS, PCGS or NGC) you can rely on the grade. And please note that I NEVER recommend buying from any other authenticator/grader. The others you run across on ebay can be a real toss-up if the grade is even close to accurate. Please use your imagination a bit with the cloudy slab not doing justice to this CWT.

We always remind collectors to buy the coin/token, not the slab; but that can be problematic when you feel you cannot judge the quality of a photo taken through the slab; you have to rely on the slab for the grade because you can't see for yourself.
