#205-CIVIL WAR SALE: AMAZING STRIP OF CONFEDERATE UNUSED STAMPS, SHEET OF 20 --OFFERS ACCEPTED

This is most definitely the rarest and most unusual of the several blocks of Confederate stamps we have in this sale.

As the picture shows, this is a strip of 10 cent stamps, all with excellent blue color, 10 stamps in vertical rows x 2 stamps. Again, as you can see in the photo, this is the full height of a sheet of 100--10x10 vertical/horizontal rows.

Retail sale, directly or via auction, should be $600-$900.

I have seen items with typical selling prices at many times the minimum bid--that ultimately received only the opening minimum bid. I have also seen--and occasionally experienced--a sale where multiple bidders were inten on winning, pushing the price far, far above the opening bid or the pre-sale estimate.

The craziest such auction at The History Bank was for a rather unassuming antique item with a minimum bid of $50; the only comparable item we could find in recent years was, in fact, for that $50 amount. We listed it opening for $50 on ebay. It received a single opening bid of $50 after a few days, then chugged along with a single raised bid until the last day of the auction. The two bidders--the opening bidder and the one who raised the bid to $100--began to get serious in the last two hours, bidding repeatedly every -10 minutes. It sold for almost $1500, with only those two bidders involved and bidding about a dozen total times..

Since this is a flat rate sale, we can't take advantage of having a pair of determined bidders pushing the price to staggering heights.
