#179-CIVIL WAR SALE: ORIGINAL WALLET FROM THE CIVIL WAR ERA OFFERED IN THIS SALE

Wallets during the Civil War were more utilitarian than fancy, and they typically had a variety of pockets. They folded up in such a way as to protect whatever was inside with their multiple folder-like sections. Most also had a pocket with or without a snap or button that could be userd for coins. It would be great to find such an 1860's piece with its provenance and containing what had been tucked away so long ago. But of the few I have seen and acquired, I've yet to find one with anything inside. Logically you wouldn't expect someone to have left a treasure--and one that wouldn't have been found over the ensuing 160 or so years.

The other similar wallet is part of a suite of items all belonging to one soldier; it is described fully in that earlier listing.
