#174-CIVIL WAR SALE: 1864 CHECK WITH THE AMOUNT CHANGED--AND STILL ACCEPTED
We have a variety of paper items from the Civil War era in this sale and most have at least a little story to tell. The checks during the Civil War were not personalized, but instead were "counter" checks drawn on a person's bank. This Pennsylvania check doesn't just have a correction, it has a few and would never be cashed today.
The final amount is $9.46 and the original amount was just a tad different, $34.75--and the initial amount as written doesn't look like thirty four either.
A nice example of a period war dated bank check. This sale includes several similar pieces, such as vouchers for sutlers and others. We do have additonal items in our inventory but didn't have room for everything. We're planning, as time allows, to create several price lists, including one for Civil War items. Others willbe devoted to individual world's fairs, including the 1893 Columbian Expo and the 1962 Seattle Century 21 Expo. This sale is the last effort for the remainder of the year. We will continue to list items as time permits, mostly on ebay but also here in our store.
