World's Columbian Wellington Catering Very Scarce Overprinted 10-Cent Ticket
Wellington Catering was by far the highest income producing concession at the Columbian Expo, as it operated several restaurants onsite. While no single restaurant had a greater income than the largest Midway concessions Cairo Street, the German Village and the Ferris Wheel; these three Midway businesses grossed more than $2 million combined ($50 million in today's dollars!), a bit more than ALL the Wellington restaurants. Wellington simply ran out of tickets by the last few days of the fair and had to resort to using already spent/used tickets, stamping them in purple with the October date they were used. Naturally overstamped tickets carry a premium due to their scarcity. We would normally offer this ticket at about $80.
