World's Columbian So-Called Dollar HK-155, Nice High-Grade Example
This is a very nice, uncirculated high grade example of this always popular Columbian medal/so-called dollar. Contrary to the rarity assigned to this medal, it is NOT about as common as the similar version, HK154. I was convinced years ago that the 155 was substantially scarcer than the companion piece, so I undertook a bit of research, looking at about six months of sales on ebay. It was informal research, but did show that the large-type variety sold more than five times as often as 155. There could many factors involved; in this case it might be better to look at listed pieces not sold and perhaps over a 12-month period. Regardless of the outcome of more research, there is no doubt that the small-type variety HK155 is considerably rarer than HK154; the only thing in question is how much rarer. This is a very strong strike/condition and the rich color is nice.
