Very Rare World's Columbian Expo Hale Elevator Company Brochure
A ride to the top of the Manufactures and Liberal Arts Building, the largest building in the world in 1893, would seem a fairly ordinary ride today. But elevators in 1893 were still a novelty and this ride actually required passengers to purchase a ticket! The Expo Hale Elevator ticket, one of two different elevator company tickets that are quite rare and collectible, sells for $300± when they can be found. This brochure from Hale features the rather ominous looking elevator and framework for the unique journey. It looks not unlike a modern construction elevator ridden by steelworkers building new skyscrapers. I'm quite sure that most 21st century elevator riders would reconsider if this was their choice for a trip to the office. Like the tickets, the brochure is very rare and should retail for $100 or more.
