Remarkable Lincoln Cent Error--Multiple Strikes
This is a very unusual and rare double-struck--with claims to a triple strike--Lincoln cent. The reverse was double struck in a manner rarely seen. Not only are the strikes about 85% offcenter, but they are virtually identical, one with "States of" and the other with "tes of A". The second strike, the lower of the two which was struck over the first one, is also showing pretty clear doubling on the letters "TES". Also, if you look at the curve of the coin directly opposite these two reverse strikes, the coin is very slightly out of round looking as though it may have been struck yet again right at the edge of the planchet. It is very intresting in all these attributes, but to my mind the best thing about the coin is the manner in which the two nearly identical portions of "The United States of America" display so well.
