Outstanding Columbian Railroad Travel Brochure and Large Foldout Map of the Expo Grounds
This small, but packed, brochure from the Pennsylvania Railroad has a lot more value than its unassuming small size might suggest. It folds out to a very large 14 in. by 24 in. brochure in panels on one side and a fairgrounds map occupying the complete other side. The text is informative and not just general but aimed at the 1893 traveler to the fair. The map would be great framed, as it shows the complete fairgrounds including the perpendicular Midway Plaisance. Typically, if an item includes the Midway it is boxed or printed as a subordinate aside. The surrounding area, including Buffalo Bill's location, streets, fair buildings and the Midway (with index of village/concession locations) are all included. The map shows wear and a few bits of daylight at the many folds, but overall it is sound and highly desirable. I certainly could see this map as definitely one of the largest and best to frame and display. If I had the wall space it would hang in my office, not be for sale. We've done our best to show as much as possible, but photographing or scanning simply couldn't squeeze it all in.
