Group of 4 Meteorites from Famous 1947 Siberian Fall in Sikhote-Alin Region of Russia
The Sikhote-Alin meteor fall was the largest modern, witnessed fall. The huge explosion resulted in thousands of small "shrapnel" pieces of the iron meteor strewn over miles of Siberia. Typically one finds a single specimen for sale for $40-$50-or even $100. Like so many purchases, judicious and patient searching can turn up less expensive items. This group or small handful (see the ruler in the second photo) is priced as a single lot, all four pieces for one price and a very modest price, at that. These meteorites show the result of the intense heat when the main body of the meteor broke off into pieces and "flowed" through the atmosphere and then cooled, retaining the shape and surface appearance. These four pieces total approximately 24 grams in weight.
