Price Reduced: Columbus's Family Crest as a Brooch or Pendant
This is one of several different iterations of the Columbus crest as a piece of jewelry at the World's Columbian Expo. It was produced in two different colored enamel versions, one just a bit larger than the other. Also, the one pictured here was produced in a second version that was just a tad smaller and did not have the rings for suspending.....something? You can see the excellent condition of this piece with just a minimal of patina over the last 127 years. All of the elements of the shield are quite well produced and distinct. The back, as with all of the different but similar pieces, is stamped "Chicago 1893." And if you have purchased antiquarian pinbacks frequently you will recognize that the pin and hasp on the back are as nice as you'll find anywhere. They are sturdy, original and the pin is more like a miniature spear than a pin. The wearer would need to be very careful not to skewer him/herself when putting on the pin. Maybe it's better just to afix a chain.
