A Pair of Colorful Columbian Advertising Cards Given Away at the Expo
This lot consist of TWO color postcard-sized advertising pieces, one for Cottolene and one for Clark Organs. The former shows the omnipresent quality of these handouts, a quite striking original illustration of the Cottolene exhibit at the fair, while the Clark Organ features a similar artist's rendition of the company's Expo exhibit. Since interior photos of Great Exhibit buildings at the fair are quite scarce, advertising pieces give us a glimpse into the colorful exhibits that filled buildings. If you notice black and white photograph of building interiors they resemble massive warehouses with steel trusses typically leading to a very high roof, especially in the Liberal Arts and Manufactures Building which featured those new-fangled contrivances of the 19th century, elevators to rooftop observation platforms.
