1893 World's Columbian Exposition Original Lowney Chocolates Box, Lot #142
Over 40+ years I have found about 5 Lowney boxes, all in surprisingly excellent condition. The first 4 were the same size, but this fifth example is substantially larger than the previous ones. Obviously, this was for a greater amount of candy. It's just supposition, but since it is the first larger box I've encountered, my assumption is that the smaller box (less candy=lower cost) was more popular. Otherwise, all boxes have been the same, very sturdy, gold imprint of the Lowney fancy exhibit at the fair and lined with a lace trim. The box measures 6.5x4.5x3 inches.
